75th Independence Day

India is celebrating its 75th Independence Day on August 15, 2021.The Indian Independence movement began during World War-I.  On August 15, 1947, India got its freedom, ending an almost 200-year British rule.

Jawaharlal Nehru was sworn as the 1st Indian Prime Minister. The British House of Commons passed the Indian Independence Bill on July 4, 1947, and it was passed within a fortnight.

Freedom fighters like Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Rani Lakshmi Bai, and others patriots  participated in the freedom moments to win independence.

India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru raised the Indian national flag above the Lahori Gate of Red Fort in Delhi on August 15, 1947. It is a tradition that has since been followed by the incumbent Prime Minister, followed by an address to the country.
